New World Auction Record for a Collection of Miniature Handbags by Hermès – HK$2,460,000/US$318,589

Hong Kong – Christie’s Handbags & Accessories Autumn Sale totalled HK$41,017,375/US$5,312,065.

The top lot of the sale set a new world auction record, realising HK$2,460,000/US$318,589. Named “Leather Forever Japan Star Bags”, this lot comprises 8 miniature handbags of Hermès iconic models: Birkin, Bolide, Constance, Faco, Farming, Kelly, Roulis and Toolbox. This extraordinary collection was previously displayed in the Tokyo National Museum where Hermès housed its successful traveling exhibition, “Leather Forever”, in 2014.

Other highlights of the season include, a one-of-a-kind Passe-Guide Star Bag by Hermès, previously showcased in the “Leather Forever” exhibition in Hong Kong in 2014, sold for HK$ 500,000 /US$64,754; and an exceptional, shiny black Porosus Crocodile Diamond Sellier Kelly 25 with 18K White Gold & Diamond Hardware by Hermès, which realised HK$ 1,125,000/US$145,696.
