Alexander Payne, Deputy Chairman, Europe, and Worldwide Head of Design, said, “We are very pleased to conclude the Fall 2016 auction season at Phillips with such solid results. All three of today’s sales demonstrated a healthy market for works of 20th century Design. In the morning session, we saw an enthusiastic response for French mid-century works by Jean Royère and Charlotte Perriand, as well as Paul Dupré-Lafon, whose Sideboard soared to $280,000, quadrupling its low estimate. In the Evening Sale, we were delighted to see Carlo Mollino’s “specchio-armadio” perform so well, along with Lucie Rie’s Flaring footed bowl, which surpassed the artist’s previous record, set just a few months ago in Phillips’ London sale. Lastly, we were honored to work with Lee Mindel and the truly impressive works in his personal collection. It is clear that even the most discerning of collectors recognize his artistic vision and were keen to acquire the works with which he has surrounded himself over the past thirty years.”
